“Obama presents energy, climate team saying that both the future of the U.S. economy and national security are linked to energy.”

President-elect Barack Obama named Steven Chu as his choice for energy secretary. Chu is a Nobel laureate and a professor of physics and molecular and cellular biology at the University of California at Berkeley. Heading up the Environmental Protection Agency will be Lisa Jackson, the former head of New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection.

Obama tapped former EPA chief Carol Browner to be assistant to the president for energy and climate change, and Nancy Sutley to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Sutley is deputy mayor for energy and the environment in the city of Los Angeles.

Energy will be "a leading priority of my presidency, and a defining test of our time," the president-elect said. He added that his administration will focus both on boosting U.S. energy independence and combating climate change.
